What is a stoma?
The word “stoma” originally comes from Greek and means something like “mouth” or “opening”. From a medical perspective, a stoma is an artificially created opening in a hollow organ in the abdomen. This can be connected to either the digestive or urinary system to drain excretions (urine or stool) from the body into an stoma pouch.
